Fifteen First Grade Students

1.  At the beginning of this story, what did the Bingle Bug do and why did he do it?
He asked Thidwick for a ride because it was a hot day and a long road.

2.  Would you do what the Bingle Bug did and why or why not?
Three voted to ride because that is better than being too hot.
Twelve wouldn't ride because Thidwick would get hung on the wall (stuffed) and that would smell bad.

3.  Describe 3 things you would have done differently if you were the Bingle Bug.
(1) Asked permission from Thidwick before riding.
(2) Told the spider to ask permission.
(3) Told Thidwick that he was riding.

4.  If you were Thidwick, what would you have done differently?
He should have said "please get off" and gone into the water to make them get off.

5.  How do you feel about Thidwick's moose-friends?
Unhappy because they rejected him and sad because they laughed at him.

6.  How does the expression "Give them an inch and they'll take a mile," relate to this story?
It means to take advantage and the animals took advantage of Thidwick.

7.  What are "rights"?  Do you agree with the "guests" that Thidwick had no right to cross the lake?  Why or why not?
The opposite of "wrongs."
No, they didn't agree because that was mean and they weren't acting like friends.

8.  What do you think "fair" means?  Were any of the guests "fair" to Thidwick?  Was it fair to take a vote about crossing the lake.  Explain.
Fair means doing something the right way and not cheating.
None of the "guests" were fair to Thidwick.  It wasn't fair to vote because the guests had no rights.  Thidwick would starve.

9.  Was it fair that Thidwick escaped the hunters and abandoned his guests to the hunters?  Why or why not?
Yes, it was fair that Thidwick escaped because the guests treated him mean.

10.  What was the moral of this story?
The moral of the story was to be fair to others. You shouldn't get your way all the time, and be kind and nice to others as you want them to be to you.
