Quoting Albert Einstein, I donıt know what kind of weapons will be
used in the third world war, assuming there will be a third world war. But I can
tell you what the fourth world war will be fought with - stone
clubs.²
In 1939 nuclear physicists came to Einstein for political help, the physicists realized that uranium might be used for enormously devastating
bombs. The fear rose that Nazi Germany might be able to construct
these
weapons. Soon after Einstein heard this news, he sent a letter to the President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The letter warned him to take action.
After a second letter was written, scientists joined the United States government to prepare for nuclear warfare. Einstein played no other role
in creating the nuclear bomb but continued to perform his service, as a consultant of the United States Navyıs Bureau of Ordnance.
Einsteinıs prediction in this quote is that the world will destroy itself. He was referring to the arms race during World
War II. When Russia and the United States used the threat of nuclear war against each other to the
extreme. It got to the point where each country could blow up the world several times, which in turn would destroy the entire human race.
In defense of this quote I believe it to hold truth. With the technology the world holds today, there are many unimaginable weapons that could be
produced and used to bring us back to where the world started.
Civilization is still advancing, and will continue to until we self-destruct because we
have found a new way to kill a person. Sticks and stones will be the outcome if a third world war were to occur. The United States needs to be
the first country to step forward, as an example for other countries, by finding ways to help humans instead of destroying them. To preserve
peace, we need weapons of smaller and men of larger caliber, was stated by an
unknown person.
Peace is a never ending struggle that no one will ever overcome. Too often
weapons are used to express the opinions of a person. People need to
become the bigger part of the conflict at hand. The larger the weapons get, the
less the people are involved. In everyday life there is always someone mad
at another person.
A weapon such as a gun is not necessarily used against the person, but words are. The actions that a people use to get revenge are not always
right. If one of the people would simply walk away; that would make them a larger
caliber. There are times when a country cannot walk away. The recent
events on September 11th hold this true. If the United States were to have
walked away everything that has been fought for starting with the Revolutionary War, it would all be lost. Our history would have become
pre-history and the free would have become the cowardly. The unknown
author of the following quote states it in the best way, ³The thing that makes life
so cruel is that everyone has such good reasons.²
Each person of the world does have a reason for hating some other person. We all have our enemies, it is time to forget about them and look at
ourselves first. Pain is self inflicted when life becomes something
that we do not want it to be. To get out of that hole it is human nature to
blame someone else. Many people often find themselves frustrated over
small
problems. Instead of calmly working it out on their own, they find it easier to vent at another person. This is the start of the huge chain
reaction known as everyday life. It happens to everyone, but no one takes the time to change it. In the world there is not time to change it. There
is only time to give back what is deserved.
Billy Graham was born on November 7, 1918, four days before Armistice Day. At age sixteen he made a personal commitment to Christ. Mr. Graham has now
preached to over 210 million people in over 185 countries or territories, not to mention the hundreds of millions he has reached through radio and
television. He has written eighteen books, all of which have become top sellers. His counsel has been sought by presidents, and his appeal to
people has been spectacular. He has received numerous decorated honors
from many different groups of people.
Mr. Grahamıs opinion of military power was announced clearly in his following statement,² We must have military power to keep madmen from taking
over the world.² In agreement with Mr. Graham, I believe that without
military power the world would be complete chaos. The entire history of
the world would be vanished. History started because there was disagreement
between people. It evolved into problems in communities and eventually
formed into world wide issues. When Hitler attempted to take over the
world he was stopped by military power. A limit has been set to control their
military power. As long as each country takes its own responsibility there
should be no fear of a madman taking over. There are many madmen in the world today. For all anyone knows their neighbor could be mad. The
concept that controls them to keep their insanity to themselves is the fear of military power being used against them. There is not a country in this
world that thinks it would be enjoyable to have a military come after them. Every single nation is afraid of it, including the United States of America.
The world is a giant puzzle; each country is a piece of that puzzle.
It is the responsibility of each country and itsı leader to keep the pieces in place. If a piece is missing or becomes destroyed, the puzzle falls apart
creating another world war. When that war is over there will be nothing. There will be no one to remember, and no one to forget. Let us hope that
it
does not come down to nothing, for we will not know anymore.
