Community To The Community
By Jimmy Mitchell
12th Grade

What is community? Community is a town full of people that work together in different ways. Like me I work for Pizza Hut so I work for those people who want pizza. Those who buy the pizza help me make money because the people who buy pizza are basically paying me to make their food. How do I personally feel about community? I feel community when I get my paycheck because I know my check comes from their money so I am going to return the favor by making their pizza and then serve them their pizza. That is how I personally feel about community.

The connection between the community and me is through the United States Marine Corps, my family, and my friends. People have asked me where do I live and where am I from? I tell them McPherson Kansas and some do not know where I have lived for the past six years so I tell them about the town and our high school soccer football and basketball teams. Then I tell them it’s home to six marines and thirty plus veterans. I am proud of my community for inspiring me to join I talked to most of the marines and they said if they could do it all again they would not change anything.

The United States Marine Corps helps all marines connect to our community because we will be protecting our hometowns and all the people in the town that I give my respect to, all teachers and the veterans. Through the Marines I will help my community by making it known for having a strong marine from the town of McPherson. I will make my community proud to have had me in the community. I am not the only marine in the town I also know some marines that live within the community. My friends Corky and Nick have already [gone] into the marines. My friends Nate and Eric are going into the marines. Nate is leaving for boot on June 25, 2007. Eric and I are leaving July 9, 2007….

The Marines are one of the most efficient ways to help my community. People around the world when [they] travel…learn about [themselves and their] town. [I] will [also] bring…that knowledge back [and] share that knowledge with friends and family members and then they [will] learn something new. …Many people will learn something new because of a Marine.

I like my community. It is quiet, not too big, not to little. Enough people to socialize with people willing to be friends. …You have to open up to people and you will learn a lot about them.  People…will earn respect from other people, that is why I am willing to fight for my community and country.

My family helps the community. My mom works for Farmers Alliance Insurance, she makes sure all her customers have insurance and are satisfied with her company. I help the community by getting good grades in school working hard after school and at Pizza Hut. I work hard to make sure all the pizzas are made right and orders are prepared correctly, and I make sure every paying customer is full when they walk out. I also make sure the work area, and dishes are as clean as possible before I leave. My dad helps the community at the Hutchinson Wal-Mart. He unloads the trucks that carry the merchandise that everyone is shopping for. He is a senior in the hardware department so he will be able to help anyone with that department. That is why I will fight and protect my family.

My friends and I help the community. We try to set an example for the generations to come by keeping ourselves drug free. We volunteer our help for everything and everyone. We also help by going into the military to be more specific. The marines is the branch we are going into. We want to make sure we are known when we are putting our lives on the line for our community that we grew up in. We want the younger generations to follow our example and fight for their community. I will fight for my friends and future generations.
