Good in My Community

Community what does it really mean? Taking care of others, going to church, playing sports? There are so many different kinds of communities, good and bad. I live in a good one and I’m happy so say I help to keep it that way.
I work as a CNA at a nursing home in McPherson, Kansas. I have been there for three years and I love it; helping people makes me feel very good. Going to work knowing that I’m needed and people depend on me makes me feel important. Nursing home care helps the community because every community has nursing homes and they all need to have employees. People put their loved one’s in there knowing that they have to be taken care of and they expect me to do that.
Sports are very important. In every community people of all ages love sports; it brings the community together and keeps people out of trouble. I love to play soccer. I started when I was in fourth grade and played until eighth grade. When I was on a team it was like another family, people working together and getting along. Having sports in the community just gives people fun activities to do.
Going to the sport activities in the community is important. Everyone should want to support the school and community. Also, it’s a chance so that people can get together and spend time together. In McPherson I like to go to football and baseball games. It makes me happy to see the community at the same place getting along and having a good time.
Fundraisers are a good way to make money for school dances, sports, and clubs. When I was in soccer I would raise money for the team to go to out of town games. We would sell candles, cookies, and candy bars . It was a good experience for me. It was hard work and fun at the same time. I also did a Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. It was for people with heart conditions. People wanted to help the community and I raised money for the condition. Fundraisers are a way that people can help the community and McPherson is great at helping people who sell items for good causes.
Baby-sitting is a way to help people out and to make a little money at the same time. many girls and boys in the community that baby-sit it helps you learn how to deal with kids and assists in problem solving. In McPherson we have two daycares and they are all full. People are always looking for a nice, loving person to help them out.
Save and Share is a store in McPherson that has toys, clothes, and household items for free or little cost. I give the store many of my clothes that don’t fit or my toy’s that I no longer need. It’s good to give back to the community and I feel that is what I do when I give to the Save and Share. Why throw away items that are still in good use when there are always people that need them? McPherson is a good town to live in when it comes to giving to people that don’t have much.
I was in a club called the Bull Pup Warriors. It was a group of people that would get together and help out the community. We would go on food drives and take food to elderly people who couldn’t shop for themselves. We would also do a pancake feed. We made pancakes and the community came to eat breakfast. In the Bull Pup Warriors I learned that I felt better about myself when I helped others that needed it, instead of wasting time doing something that doesn’t matter.
I have been in a few school talent shows; one was in fourth grade and another in ninth grade. It was a fun time and both were good experiences. They taught me how to get up in front of people and how to stick with something even if others think it is hard or when others might make fun of you. Every year the school has a talent show it is a way that the students can stay out of trouble and interact with others. McPherson is a community that want people to do well, and getting in front of people had to do with life.
I’m happy to live in McPherson, Kansas. It’s a small town, but a good town. Not much to do, but that’s ok. We just need to learn how to spend time doing good rather than bad. I think McPherson is a great community to live in and I’m happy to say that I live here.
