Feelings Towards Community
By Mike Horner
12th Grade

Community is something where many people come and live together in a certain environment with similar ideas or interests.  There are a number of different communities out there that people are a part of, even if they are not aware of it themselves.  The different communities may vary.

I feel community by interacting and socializing with others….   [Some] don’t treat me with trust or respect.  I probably won’t be having positive feelings towards those groups.

Starting with the world community, I’d have to say that I have a variety of feelings towards this community.  First off, I feel trust towards others, such as world leaders, to keep peace with everybody else in the world, and try to avoid starting large wars.  I don’t think the world community would be able to handle another World War because if that started, I fear somebody would resort to nuclear weaponry.  If that happened, the whole world could be blown to bits.

Next up would be my national community.  Of course I feel a sense of patriotism and brotherhood around my fellow Americans because whenever something bad happens to our country, we seem to band even closer together.  Although, I do feel some anger towards people out there that just have money on their mind and don’t care about anybody else because I know many CEO’s are like that.

My local community, which consists of my normal friends at school and acquaintances, is full of different people.  To some people in this community I feel frustration because they talk behind my back so they seem cool to others, and then they try to act friendly to me.  Towards [those] that are friendly to me, I have a warmer and more trusting feeling.  I can carry on a conversation without [feeling they are] going to backstab me….

My nuclear family is probably the community that I am the closest [to] because I am with them most of the time.  Although sometimes my nuclear family may annoy, and even anger me, I know that all of their intentions are pure and good.  They look out and take care of me while I’m sick.  Heck they take care of me even when I’m healthy.  I also know that whatever happens to me and no matter what stupid things I may do, that they’ll love me just the same.

My close friends are almost like my nuclear family to me.  I see them almost as much as my nuclear family, and I know that they like me for who I am.  I don’t have to act like somebody I’m not when around them.  I’d trust all of them with my life as well.  I know that they watch my back, and I can watch theirs.  I love being around them because I’m usually happier when I’m hanging around with them.

I’m pretty close with my extended family such as aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.  I trust all of them and all of them are practically close friends to me.  I see them often, which helps [us] stay close.  I like being around them as well because they’re a fun bunch of people.

I don’t really feel much towards my ancestors because I never knew them.  Though I do wonder what they were like when they were living.  I know my heritage to an extent, so sometimes I…wonder about them.  I’m happy that my ancestors came together the way they did or else I could’ve turned out completely different.

Our high school band would also be considered a community as well.  Many people in this community are good friends to me, meaning that they’re practically like family to me, while others in this community I have some negative feelings toward like anger and frustration because they belittle others in this community and think that they’re better than everybody else, when in reality they’re just the same.

There are many different communities varying in size, location, and many other things.  Seeing as I’m a part of many different communities as well, I have many different feelings towards each and every community that I am a part of.  Without all of these different communities, the world would be a big, cold, and heartless place where people would only look out for themselves.  In communities you have people that care for you and look out for you.
