Sense of Community
By: Aaron Owings
12th Grade
I feel
a sense of community when a common vision exists, when a sense of responsibility
is constructed, and when care is shown for fellow members within certain
community.
I feel a sense of community when a common vision exists. These common visions are what brought this nation together in the first place. Our ancestors had a vision for America. Our ancestors had a vision and followed through on it. The goals achieved were then seen by the entire world. Everyone began to see potential within this great nation and began to come to our country. This common vision also creates a sense of unity within the community. Throughout the year the town has come together to assist the seniors in graduating. Our class has gone through many tough spots to make it to where we are today. We have had many meetings on how to handle the responsibility that lies in front of us. Everyone had a common vision to achieve our goals effectively, and this brought us together so we could get everything done. Now, as our high school education comes to a close, everybody begins to invite all their family and friends to see what we have accomplished. Our aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and other family members come to our graduation to see what we have accomplished. Common visions also exist on the national and international level. A while back, our nation was attacked by cowards. This rekindled our nation’s patriotism and brought us all together. Now, we stand to fight anything that wishes to damage our nation.
I feel a sense of community when responsibility is constructed. One
responsibility of every community is to achieve progress. In Kinsley, Kansas
everything possible is done to keep the town alive and to keep it growing. The
main responsibility of this community is to provide a peaceful setting for
people to live. By doing this, more people are attracted to this community.
Responsibility exists in the family. Parents must raise their children to be
responsible citizens in today’s society. Children must be raised with morals
and values. They must prize education, respect, and a quality lifestyle. Our
children should not be satisfied with anything but the best. The child also
needs to be responsible. When I was growing up, I had to deal with many problems
every day. When I made a wrong decision, I would feel the consequences. I
learned from my mistakes. Sometimes there are actions that I know are wrong and
would never do. My parents taught me this common sense. So by fulfilling their
responsibilities, I am able to fulfill mine. When it comes to responsibility we
have to deal with our physical well-being too. When we go on vacation, we must
be aware of certain diseases other sicknesses that can arise and. We cannot go
just anywhere without knowing what the consequences may be. We must also be
responsible for the welfare of others. In every community, there is someone that
is less fortunate than we are. We cannot just allow them to suffer when we have
the capability of helping them. We should take responsibility and help them. It
is difficult to let go what we have earned, but sometimes someone else needs it
more.
I feel a sense of community when care is shown for fellow members of a community. Bonding with people is so important. The sense of community comes through communication. This care lets people know that they are in a community and not alone. We must show care and understanding for our friends everyday. These are the people that we know will be there. By showing care for them, we know that in our time of need our friends will be there to help us. We must also show care for the strangers that we meet. They should know that we care and respect our community. We let them know that we are not selfish and keep to ourselves. A unique community I see is the church. For centuries upon centuries people have been coming together for the same goal. This could be any religion and not necessarily my own. Everyone that has a religious community has people that share so much with each other. They have the same beliefs. They have the same morals and values. They have a very similar lifestyle. All these people have so much in common just because of their religion.
In closing, common visions, responsibility, and care all create a sense of community. No matter which community we are in, these three ideas allow us to understand how and why we are connected to our family, our friends, our town, our nation, and our world.
