Building My Community

By Whitney Crockett

Finding people who share a common vision, who have faith in one another, and who provide internal support boldly forms the basis of a worthy community.

Those in a community share dreams, traditions, and standards as a common vision. The local community has dreams that the members hope to achieve. They want a strong local community where the people work together. Everyone wants a safe social community to belong to. The wants of local officials are violence controlled, laws to be followed, and safe entertainment for the people. Parents want a safe place for their kids to play and grow up. Adults need a community that socializes and works with the economics around us.

World goals are dreams for the world community.  We hope for a peaceful future of our world.  Wars need to be prevented.  The dreams of everyone must match to achieve a worldwide vision.  Nations must agree to trade goods that are rare and needed to others.  The rules of immigration should also be agreed on for peace.

Traditions that we follow are common in the community. The national community has a culture to follow.  We formed the American culture. This culture is changing and we are accepting these changes because we were brought up to do so.  We know we should melt together and form one strong nation…. Standards are set by each different community.  Appropriate language and social skills are some of these standards the communities have.  These standards can be rules or guidelines set by the nuclear family. The local community also has standards to follow. Schools set rules to abide, guidelines to follow and destinations to reach. Cities have traffic laws on roads and limits to follow. Our community shares the vision of having dreams, traditions, and standards.

Faith in one another is necessary in a community.  This faith includes safety, beliefs, and lifestyle.  Safety always comes first.  In our local community we want to feel safe. We look out for one another.  ome communities have neighborhood watch. This watch puts everyone on the lookout for suspicious people or activity. Always caring about others and their safety makes a strong community. Trust is inherited through the beliefs of the community.  Members of the community believe in the procedures followed. With these same beliefs comes peace. At the national community level we share ethical values.  These values range from voting to buckling a seat belt. The community having faith in one another is successful in many people’s opinion. The lifestyle of the local community deals with comfort.  We must feel comfortable in the environment that we live in. When we have faith that those around us fit into the community it makes everyone more comfortable.  This comfort is not the softness of a mattress. Comfort is feeling welcomed or belonging in a community.  It is important for the community to be suitable for everyone living there. The people must agree with the society’s unwritten rules, traditions, and values. Sharing a common faith in one another’s safety, beliefs and lifestyle makes a strong community.

Internal support makes a worthy community. Support comes from family, friends, and other people or groups. First is family; [it] is the main source of support.  Parents or guardians have supported us financially since we were born. This support usually lasts until at least high school or college. This financial help includes food, clothing, and other necessities. My parents supported me financially until I was 16 and could get job. They still finance some necessities for me but I am also responsible for buying things on my own. A family also supports the decisions we must begin to make on our own. This support can also come from the extended community. Support for decision-making includes emotional support. When life gets rough I can always count on my family to be my moral support.  My mother especially, she is so emotionally strong and positive.  I admire her for that.  Next my friends give me internal support.  My peers are always testing me and influencing me.  It is my decision to allow them to influence me.  If they are making good choices in the teenage world, then I will be influenced by the choices they make.  If they are making bad choices, they will still influence me.  They teach me from their mistakes to not follow the crowd.  I consider myself to be a strong person and I do not easily crack under peer pressure.  My peers usually try to influence me to make the wrong choices but I know better by seeing their mistakes.  My friends are the ones who help guide me to make the right choice.  Their support in my life is irreplaceable.  They support decisions I have to make and guide me to make the right decisions when under pressure.

Finally other people in the world influence me.  In the world community, leaders of other nations are supporting world peace.  These leaders make a community that serves a valued purpose.  These leaders support our rights and wants as United States citizens.  They are trying to make peace with all nations.  Sometimes these leaders and their countries support other needy countries financially.  At the national community level, our leaders are supporting the whole nation.  Immigration seems to be a big issue right now.  Our country is trying to limit the number of illegal immigrants in our country.  Our government is doing this to protect the rights of the citizens.  Each state and person is represented at the national level.  We must support and be supported by the representative of our area.  Internal support is a key factor in making a community worthy.

In closing, the basis of a worthy community includes people who share a common vision, have faith in one another, and provide internal support.  Look for these factors to boldly form a successful community.
