The following would teach management skills, leadership skills and office skills.
Secretarial skills ( Word Processing, spreadsheets, copying and filing ) Inputting information into a computer database Coordinate meetings and schedule projects Setup appointments and other phone work Organize and motivate people Writing tasks ( such as letters, flyers, manuals, press releases) Help teach novice users to be comfortable on the Internet and with email Research Grant making organizations Solicit businesses to obtain finders fees for bringing in new clients or customers Conduct research via regular mail
The following choices would increase and enhance computer and design skills.
Computer programming Perform webmaster duties Design logos, posters, flyers, brochures for a business or personal use Compose the words to dub in video for spots on cable TV stations and or Internet website Learn or work with software for design or websites such as Front Page, Macromedia software products or other design editing software. Work with video design software or photography--taking action shots of volunteers at work for website or other recognition Conduct research over the Internet or email Publish books with all sorts of themes Publish calendars featuring drawings from kids or photos of community work
The following will enhance your “people skills”.
Conduct research in person to uncover all the good going on in your community (interview groups and individuals, church, government, private) Conduct research via the telephone Compose songs or cheers Solicit or supervise others to obtain donations of goods and services as needed Find solutions to community problems (group brainstorming) Think up incentives for volunteer jobs (awards, motivators) Discuss volunteering with people of all ages and walks of life Debate and persuade Pole people face to face and record their answers on the spot Work or play with young children in a day-care or babysitting position Act in video, for presentations to other schools and organizations Perform for children at hospitals or for parties by leading games , manipulating puppets Bake cookies or prepare hot food for special volunteer events Prepare hot food for the elderly or homebound people Provide or arrange transportation for people Pick up donations ( load, transport, sort) Sell items and flea markets or concessions Run errand for busy workers or homebound Work on projects with people in retirement homes
