HARRY SINGER FOUNDATION’S
Human Nature Project

The goal of this project is to
improve the chances that man will discover how to live with his kind in peace
and tolerance, creating a free, stable environment before he blows up or causes
irrevocable damage to the planet.
Once he figures out the necessary rules of conduct, the next step would be to figure out how to enforce these rules while preserving maximum individual and group freedom of thought and action.
While these goals seem lofty and unattainable to many, we are counting on the better traits of human nature to help man’s rationality prevail.
Some illustrative examples of these traits:
1. Basic need of all life to preserve and advance its kind.
2.Man as a social animal – more cultural than instinctive.
3. Education of the young is mandatory to pass on the culture.
4. Trait to be cooperative may be stronger than trait to be competitive
5. Man can only feel one emotion at a time. Given a choice, most people are able to choose the better alternative. Envy vs. friendship/goodwill leads to:
6. After economic stability is reached, status becomes most important.
7. Trading as a basic activity of man.
8. Reciprocal altruism.
The Foundation’s procedure would be to take a trait, one at a time, and research the work already completed on it, add studies where necessary to prove the theory to a reasonable level of confidence and then use forums to communicate what has been found to at least the following groups:
1. Leaders of the influential nations.
2. The young who can absorb ideas most readily.
3. The public at large.
4. Proactive individuals and groups that cause change in society.
The chosen forums might include:
Film
Web TV
Talk shows on TV and radio
Books
Articles
Collective Intelligence via
Internet
Lecture Circuit
Like-minded group meetings/retreats
One on one meetings
The ultimate goal will take years of effort with many minds contributing… but a journey of 1000 miles begins with a few steps. Our foundation is determined to take those early steps.
