"I think that what Sykes is saying is that when we help people and try to do things for them, we start taking away their responsibility.  In a way, I agree with Sykes because when people are on welfare it is hard for them to start to get any job because they start losing their food stamps and things they need to help  them out."

"Walker Percy fears seeing America gradually subside into decay through default and bankruptcy.  I think that the evil and pain in the world are compensated for by goodness and happiness even though it might not seem like it.  [They are ] examples in my community like people quickly volunteering their time to help any needy or homeless people in the area.  Also, in my neighborhood we have no worries about crime because people take responsibility and volunteer their time to watch people's houses when they are not home, or just keep a Block Watch.
