Todays Society and The Future
By Kelli Carter
Grade 12
The role of
personal responsibility in improving the quality of life in our communities today could
have a broad range of meaning. It can range from hate, crime, helping others, becoming a
community and community involvement and just by being a friend.
With the
world today hate is the main cause of problems. You have the beatings, writing on others
property, arson, the racism remarks and just the plain harassment. If people would step up
and assume the role of being wrong, then most of these problems would not occur.
Todays world needs more support groups and more lessons taught to them at a much
younger age. Schools are just covering the basics and when a violent crime does occur,
they just brush it off. Why not ask the students how they would have handled the
situation? Or ways to prevent the violent crime? Or why do the students believe the hate
was related. By just becoming involved in the community helps stop the trouble. More
community events can help this by organizing community fairs or projects. By stopping the
hate which leads to violence the society can be saved.
Violence can
be anything. Killing, raping, beating, car jacking, robbery and many other things are just
the reasons why violence is controlling the society. Where are the stiffer punishments? Or
better yet let the accused know and see what they did to someone elses life?
Todays guilty parties do not realize how much one family can be effecting by their
little act of violence or maybe just because they wanted to have fun. The community needs
to pull together and see how many lives could be changed if the violence would stop. Kids
today are afraid to go to school just because kids want to have fun and get even with
things outside of school and destroy the school. The teachers and administrators need to
step it up and take care of these children before they get out of school. Teaching them
self-esteem will be the biggest key to success.
By helping
others within the community makes not only the community stronger but makes you as a
person stronger. Helping just does not mean every once in a while; it means all the time.
Teaching children how to play a sport takes dedication and patience. The children see that
when an adult puts time and effort into something then maybe they should too. Special
Olympics are one of the best ways to help not just the everyday students but the students
who normally dont get a lot of attention. These students know when someone comes to
help and these students respect you more as person then everyday students do. Friendships
can be found and made for a lifetime.
Friendship
does not always mean you have known the person for a long time or that you can tell a
person everything about you. A friendship is something you cherish or are willing to be
honest with. You can make friendships with anyone as long as you can be honest and willing
to help when in needed. When you see an accident and stop and help the victim. The usual
outcome of the act of kindness begins a newfound friendship. Friendships can often be
found within community involvement.
When a
community has grown to become a family, the community can be a much more positive
environment. Communities who hold community fairs, parties, parades, or just a social; the
community pulls together. Once the whole community takes part the children will realize
this is what life is to be not with violence. Helping the less fortunate or helping
someone during hard times will make communities today stronger. Having things for the
children to do during the summer rather then getting in trouble will help. Just by having
the parents support during all sports activities or other activities can make a positive
impact. Parents need to encourage their children to become involved and make friends who
will make their later years a success.
Communities
just need to look into the future with a positive note rather then a negative one. Once a
child or an adult see negative is grows on them too. Communities can be saved today
through work and effort the society will be a new society by the end of the next
generation.
