The Role of Personal Responsibility in Improving

the Quality of Life in Our Communities Today

By Kristy Bausell

12th grade

Reducing crimes, increasing jobs, and improving communication would improving the quality of life in our communities. Crime has taken over a big part of society today.  Kids are shooting and killing one another other more and more every day.  It is getting so bad kids can’t even go to school without getting threatened, bullied, or even shot at.  It is good that there is security in schools, but it shouldn’t have come down to putting thousands of dollars into cameras, metal detectors, and many other security devices to protect the kids.  They should be putting that money towards the education for the kids.  Not only do we need to reduce the crimes in schools, but we also need to focus on the crimes in streets like rapists, robbers, murders, drive by shootings, and many other crimes in our every day lives.

We can resolve some of these crimes by supporting better television programs and not having R-rated movies. We would cut down on what should be on television
so young kids can't watch it. That is where kids get all the bad ideas and vulgar language. Supporting better reporting systems in schools will help children make so
young kids can't watch it. Supporting better reporting systems in schools will help children make better decisions.

Another important issue in our communities today would be scarcity in jobs.  Companies today are depending more on people with college degrees.  Those who decide not to go to college are having a hard time finding companies who will hire them because they are going up against people who have degrees and are very successful. There are many adults and kids who are homeless and unemployed because they have decided to drop out of school.  Not only that, but people might not have jobs because factories are getting shout down, moved, or taken over by companies that are more advanced with better technology.  To make the unemployment rate go down, we need to buy more American products to increase the population in businesses today. We also should support our communities by buying from businesses in our community instead of going to other communities and buying their products. Supporting your Congressmen to activate the community will help them make better decisions.

The last problem in our communities today that I will mention will be families.  Many families today are divorded, split up, or have unstable marriages for other reasons.  Not only do the parents make the households unstable, but now it’s the children. There are some parents that are abusive and that is what makes the family unstable. Other parents don’t discipline their children because they might go to jail or get the kids taken away from them for child abuse.  Some kids today are so disrespectful at home because they know they can get away with it .That is what leads kids to disrespecting their teachers at school because they get away with it at home and they know that the teacher can’t discipline them without getting into trouble. The only thing that teachers can do is give detentions, Saturday school, suspensions, or expulsions, but that doesn’t help because they just get mad.

Some ways we can help this problem would be to support family activities in our community.  Hopefully that will help parents get more involved with their children. This would result in changing the parents actions to make their children more responsible and families more stable. We should also support civic organizations because they support good moral decisions, and they give money to help families become more stable. Supporting church and youth organizations will help families be more involved in their communities. Being involved in sports activities will help children stay out of trouble.

In conclusion, not only do crimes, jobs, and families need to be improved in the quality of life in our communities, but so much more.  So I think everyone needs to pull together if our communities are going to be improved because it is going to take a lot more than one person to make our communities better.  I know not everyone in our community is going to read this, but if I tell one person my ideas might be shared with other people and it just might help our community.  So tell someone your ideas about helping your community and maybe after a while our communities will change for the better.
