WHAT I CAN DO FOR MY COMMUNITY

By Jeremiah Cooley

Grade: 10

I believe everyone should take on responsibility.  One responsibility is to improve the quality of life in our communities.  We should all accept this responsibility and do our part.  If we all do our own part it will go smoothly because we will not have to do our neighbor’s job.  I believe there are three main things to this responsibility.  The first one is to keep it clean.  Second, we should all do our part in keeping our communities safe.  The third and last thing is to obey the local law enforcement.

I believe our communities today need to be cleaned up.  There is trash and filth on every corner.  People just do not care to throw trash down nowadays. People litter everywhere, they do not really care.  There are some people who do not litter, and actually dispose of their trash the correct way. They throw it in a garbage can somewhere.  The main reason people litter is because they are lazy and they live a nasty lifestyle.  If people would stop littering and throw trash away somewhere our communities today would look a lot cleaner.  The solution to the problem is pick up what trash is on the ground, and then stop littering.  That would solve the problem, there would be no more trash on the streets. I believe one way to do this would be community service, make young people do this when they get caught littering.  Another way to do it would to get out myself with some friends and get it done, and then hope others would join.  If we could do this our communities would be a lot cleaner. I also believe in keeping my house and yard clean.  If it looks junky it will reflect bad on my community.

A big problem in communities today is safety.  I believe in keeping my community safe.  A lot of people, especially older people do not feel safe in their community.  We need to work at having safe communities and making the people in them feel safe.  This is possible if everybody does his or her part.  I believe my part in it is easy.  I should stay out of trouble and be kind to other people.  If we also do this in our school it would help. If you have troublemakers in your school you will have them in your community.  The way to do all this, to keep our communities safe is simple.  It is the third of this responsibility of improving the quality of life in our communities.  I should obey the law.

Every community has a problem with people not obeying the law.  The law enforcement does enforce the law, but it does not always help.  The problem has to start with, I, to be solved.  Everyone has to start with himself  and make it personal.  I believe it is part of my personal responsibility to obey the law.  If I do it, I may influence others to do the same, and so the process goes on.  I also think we should respect the law , even if we are law-abiding citizen.  If everyone starts with himself, the problem will be solved.  Then this makes our communities safer and have a better name in the surrounding area.  If I do this and cause others to do so maybe the problem will be solved.  It has to start personal, it has to start with the person. That is what I see as my personal responsibility.

Everyone has a personal responsibility in improving the quality of life in our communities today.  I believe mine is simple.  There is three main parts to it.  First, is to clean my community up and to not throw trash down.  Next, I should do anything I can in keeping my community safe.  I need to help keep others feel safe also.  If I stay out of trouble it will help accomplish this.  It may also influence others to do the same, then the problem will be solved quicker.  Lastly, is obeying the law and respecting the local law enforcement.  I need to be a law-abiding citizen and influence others.  If I do this and others see me and are influenced it would really help solve the problem.  The key is to influence others and get the job done together, don’t do it alone, two is stronger than one.
