Personal Responsibility

Hello, my name is Jeremy Newton from Harriman High School in Harriman, Tennessee. I am writing an essay on personal responsibility and I thought the best way to start off this essay was to give the definition of responsibility. Responsibility is the quality or condition of being responsible or having obligation. Personal responsibility is something a lot of people this day and time do not have a lot of. Responsibility is such a broad topic so I am going to use the subject of driving. I am getting my license this week, and I know I have a big personal responsibility of being careful not to harm myself or anyone else on the road.

 

There are a lot of irresponsible people on the roads this day and time. There are so many people being killed in car accidents because of the foolishness or irresponsibility of careless drivers. Most of the time, these type of people get on the road somewhere and think of themselves only and forget about the safety of others driving on the same roads on which they are traveling. As an example, my grandparents were victims of another driver’s irresponsibility. My grandparents were driving on the interstate and a person's foolishness caused her to strike my grandparent's car. As it turned out, the driver of the other car was neither insured nor did she have a driver’s license. This example shows some of the irresponsible actions of someone this day and time.

 

Another topic of irresponsible driving is driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. I believe this shows the greatest example of irresponsibility, period!  I know one of my personal responsibilities of driving is not drinking and driving or not drinking at all.  There are so many people killed every year because of drivers driving with their senses impaired from drugs. Most of the time, these victims are young teenagers. Sometimes, if they are lucky, they walk away with minor cuts or bruises, but then again, some end up scarred, paralyzed, or dead. I think it is so irresponsible for someone to get drunk and then drive when they know before that they shouldn't. Then they come to the determination that so many others have, "that will not happen to me". Well, I would like to tell anyone that says that, “You are wrong!” It can happen to anyone. When the state gives you your license, they assume you understand the huge responsibility you have with driving and watching out for the safety of not only yourself but others, too.

 

There are also drivers who ignore road signs just because they do not want to obey them.  The stop sign is the most often ignored rule or road sign that is violated. There are so many people that "stop and roll" as police or sheriffs call it.  They get to the sign and see nothing coming. They do not fully stop and just roll out into the intersection. They take big risks by doing that. A car might be coming in their blind spot they cannot see and end up in a collision. Then there is a chance of getting pulled over by a cop and making your car insurance skyrocket. Another type of "mistake" careless people make is "mistaking" stoplights. Some people know the right words for the stoplight colors. The color red means stop, the color yellow means caution, and the color green means go. But some people think yellow means speed up and red means go. Another careful thing to watch out for is people running red lights. If you are coming to a stoplight and the light is green, of course, you have the right of way. Some people coming the other way may come through the intersection even though it is red.  This behavior more than likely will result in a collision.

 

I am writing this essay on personal responsibility and I thought the best way to end this essay was to give the definition of responsibility again. Responsibility is the quality or condition of being responsible or having obligation. Personal responsibility is something everyone needs to learn about. Even if they have good responsibility, that does not mean they cannot get their mind refreshed on all of the different ways to demonstrate it. After doing research for this essay, I have learned more about my responsibility of being a driver and keeping everyone’s safety in mind. I hope whoever may read this will better recognize the responsibilities in the world, not only of driving, but also of keeping the community clean and just being as peaceful as possible.             Our goal should be to dematerialize society without reducing quality of life. We should live to change the world.

 

Q-4

            A worthy goal for my community would be to reduce alcohol sales. A way of doing so would be to up the legal age to 25 and stop having buyers for the under age.

            I believe that no one can replicate a mother. A mother is that person that a little boy and girl can bond with and have that special closeness with her. Replicating a mother is not socially and emotionally not good.

 

Q-6

            I believe because of democracy, people need people to back them up on their rights in court or however it may fall to get a lawyer.

 

Q-7

            I prefer punitive damaged because if you lose in court somehow, it will damage your life so to speak in the long run. I think if people commit a crime or violation, that they should be penalized.

More jobs will be available as they retire

Pass wisdom on to grandparents of their grandchildren’s generation

Teach them stuff of the 2000’s

            Well you never can know about the programs set-up by government because most of the time they are here and then gone again, and in my opinion, the likelihood is slim because of what I stated at the beginning.
