Unemployment and the Future Generation
By Beth Shroyer
Grade:
11
Unemployment, a growing problem in
America, is increasing everyday. With the vast amount of students graduating every year,
fewer and fewer of them are continuing their education, making it harder for them to
acquire a job because in the new millennium computers are taking over jobs people thought
could never be replaced by machines. I like computers, but they are making it easier for
people to become lazy.
If someone wants to set a goal and
actually accomplish it, they almost have to continue their education. The children of the
future have a lot to look forward to, but when I sit and think about it they really
dont. Simple little chores that have to be done daily can be done in thirty seconds
with the push of a button.
Welfare is making things easier for
the children of the future, also. If people have parents that are on welfare that do
nothing with their everyday lives then their children arent going to strive to be
much either. My parents have been working since they were first married, making me want to
strive to be the best person I can be. Unemployment is a serious matter and no one seems
to care, not even the government. I know the amount of people on welfare is decreasing,
which makes me feel better.
I have never been on welfare and I
hope I never am, but I think there should be a policy. Losing a job and having a family is a tough situation,
being on welfare wont help in getting a decent job because it makes people lazy. I think
that is why people are so lazy because they dont even get jobs; they just sit at
home watching Oprah and eating chips, waiting for their check to come in the mail.
It is a horrible thing to lose a job,
but to give up trying when times get tough is even worse. The future children will have
nothing to look forward to if they can draw for unemployment that easily. It may seem as
though I have something against welfare [recipients]. I dont. It just aggravates me
to see people buying cigarettes, when they have a baby on their shoulder and a toddler at
their knee, who is in dire need of clothing.
Welfare is a great help to those who
are temporarily out of a job. Today it is very easy to get on welfare or file for
unemployment. It needs to be stopped because the governments money is being sucked
up by people who need it but dont use it to buy essentials that are desperately
needed such as: toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, healthy food, clothing,
soap, and other important items.
Welfare can only take people so far.
Someday they will have to get your feet planted back into the ground, working harder to
fix the mistakes that they made before. It is sort of a pick-me up if you
think about it.
The unemployment rate, to me, will
increase drastically in the future because of the amount of lazy people in the world. My theory is Good better best never let it
rest until your good is better than your best. I am saying this because I am a
somewhat of an extrovert. My classmates are also out-going. This may have nothing to do
with the subject of unemployment but I believe that my class will be successful in the
future.
The only advice I can give is never
give up until you really cant pursue anything anymore. The skills we learn in school
come from the time and effort of the teachers. When I graduate, Im quite sure it
would disappoint many of my teachers if I became unemployed. Jobs are a privilege, which shouldnt be
burdens that we become better at as we continue in the process of working.
The future is becoming more
complicated with computers taking over the job world. Im not all that down to
earth with computers, but I do know a little about them. I understand that it can be complicated to get a
job, but they should try. The unemployment rate can decrease or increase; the decision is
in the hands of the future generation.
