Improving The Quality Of Life By
Taking Matters Into Our Own Hands

by Tiffany Glenn

11th grade

Unfortunately, God didn’t create anyone perfect, and there is no way that anyone can become perfect. Since none of our people are perfect, our communities aren’t either, because we the imperfect people make up the imperfect community. We can’t make them perfect, but we can work towards improving the quality of our life in our community.

Communities today consist of all different types of families. Some homes include happily married couples with children, families suffering from divorce, and single parent homes. As you can see, there are many differences in lifestyles when you think about the lives of our children.  They are suffering from many types of problems in the home.

Marriage is an important step in many people’s lives. The couple can end up having a wonderful fulfilling life together while others end up having a terrible life together.  It’s all about who you are and what type of predicament you are in.

A terrible life is absolutely what we do not need and want our couples to have to experience.  Divorces occur every year, and they really are unnecessary.  We need to get the divorce rate down as soon as possible. because the rate is going up.

New laws should be taken into consideration. Some laws should include restrictions on an adaptation period before marriage. An adaptation period should issue a justified time where they can adapt to each other. This period should include the couples living together, managing a child, keeping up a home, and managing a job and bills.  These are basically the duties of a married couple.

If our community passed a law like this bill that I just proposed, it would give our fellow citizens time to think.  They could decide whether they are ready for marriage, or if they think it is better to just wait, which is a personal decision. Nobody but you can decide if you are ready to marry someone.  This should always be taken into consideration.

Another tremendous issue that should be thought about is the required age for marriage.  People sometimes try to rush it, and that is not necessary especially when you are still a child. People today are trying to get married at  ages of fifteen and sixteen, which is entirely to young for marriage. Marriage is for mature adults, not immature children. Marriage counselors and the government should try to go by these guidelines, and maybe divorce would not be as big of an issue as it is now.

Furthermore, our world is made up thousands of  careers.  Some require college degrees, while others don’t.  Part of our society is making at least $20.00 an hour or more, while others are still making that lousy minimum wage. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and people don’t succeed as well as others. If you don’t succeed in college, it can sometimes affect your career goals.  Technology, especially computers, is expanding into all kinds of occupations. These days you can hardly find a job that does not require computer knowledge.

As a result of the imperfectness in our world today, everyone makes mistakes at some point in their lives. One big mistake is made by students who graduate from high school and forget about attending college. Even though they made that mistake, it should not be held against them.  They should be eligible for just as many jobs as college gradates. It is person’s personal responsibility for their own success or failure.  They can only make the decision for themselves.

If our fellow citizens strive to help themselves, then they would be better off. If you mess up in school, aim at getting your GED. Life is an ongoing process that involves making mistakes. Life is all about making up for those mistakes and aiming for bigger and better things in life. These are all personal responsibilities that only the person can aim at correcting. It’s all about you.

While taking a nice relaxing drive around you neighborhood, what do you always see no matter what? The answer is garbage. No matter where you are there is always a piece of scrap on the ground. People try to complain to the city when they should be really complaining to themselves. They are the ones doing the littering, and it is their personal responsibility to keep their neighborhoods clean.

Life will make you have a nervous break down if you let it so stop trying to blame things on others, when it is mainly your responsibility. Our community today has many problems that need to be taken into consideration. We the people need to strive to make our communities a better place. It is not everybody else’s responsibility, though, it’s our own individual responsibility.

Answers To Questions

1.  Citizens in Manus are slightly different from Americans. Manus like to support people who are married. Americans prefer for marriages to occur, but they will support you any way it goes.

2.  Five of the people I interviewed all had been married less than one year. Their answer to my question all focused on the same subject which was love.  They said to make sure that you were really in love before you made the decision.  The other five people who were all married at least a year focused on being ready to be faithful, love, and the thought of being with the same person for the rest of your life.

3.  Richard Eckersley is mainly improving the quality of life. He is focusing on trying to explain that materialistic things don’t make one person better than the other. Materialistic things should not even be on our mind.

4.  Stop thinking about only ourselves, and start thinking about others who are in need of our assistance.

5.  The way the world is changing now; there is no way that we can predict what tomorrow’s child will be like.

6.  Lawyers are helpful by the democracy in the USA because of the individualism and social fluidity. The US is so diverse, and with so much diversity agreements are hard to be made.  This is where lawyers step in to help.  People who are worried about the length of their life like to have to deal with legal actions to help deal with their problems. The size issue is handled by lawyers who help you break down several transactions into one.

7.  Regulations because everyone makes mistakes, but if they follow certain guidelines these mistakes could be prevented.  That is the only way I can think of handling the situation.

8.  The X’ers will care for their aging parents. The elderly may provide entrepreneurial opportunities for teenagers.  Companies may also offer on-site, non-medical elder care.  These are all benefits of the baby boomers retiring.

9.  I think Clinton can be successful at his anti-poverty program for three basic reasons: it’s not impossible, he’s making efforts toward making it work, and he’s standing up for what he believes in.

10.  Cathy and Lewis are both men, positive role models, and they were both showing their concern for the children in their communities.
