Being  Responsible

by Rebecca Olney
Grade 10

The role of personal responsibility in improving the life in our communities today is taking responsibility for one's self, responsibility for your property and your actions.  You can also take responsibility by getting involved and teaching kids about violence.  You should take responsibility in what you do because you can become a better person.

Taking responsibility in ones self is what you need to get you by in your community.  Being apart of the groups that go out and pick up trash, cleaning around the town take great responsibility in what you do.  They want the best for their town and they want it to resemble the way that they live.  Taking responsibility for your property and taking good care of your belongings means that you are a responsible person.  It is good to take care of your property and it always shows.  Your property also will reflect back on you.  You always want to keep a nice house and a clean yard.  When you take responsibility for your actions you are a well liked person.  No one wants a person who smarts off or says something at the wrong time.  When you take responsibility for your actions you won't smart off or act irresponsible.  You are prepared for the community around you.  You can be more accurate with your smart actions.  You should always make smart actions in life because you do not want to say the wrong thing to the wrong person.  When you take responsibility for you property or your actions you are a very dependable person and people can rely on you.

Another way of being responsible is getting involved.  My years in FBLA, 4-K and CCD have taught me to be responsible.  In FBLA we do a lot of fund raisers and we put on carnivals- you have to take great responsibility because you are dealing with money and taking care of little kids.  FBLA is a great get together.  It teaches you so much and you get to go lots of places.

            I

n 4-H there is a wide variety of choices you can make and in every one you take great responsibility.  In 4-H you make arts and crafts, show horses, build rockets, give speeches, show livestock, rodeo, music, performing arts, citizenship, photography, foods and nutrition, child development, and wood -working.  Those are just some of the

categories in 4-H where you take a great deal of responsibility.  You don't want to lose any little pieces and mess up anything so you take a little responsibility in what your doing.

In CCD (which is a church "Sunday School thing") we help the little kids with their plays.  We help them memorize their lines.  We get to decorate the church for special occasions.  We get to help clean up and even go to class.  CCD is a good learning class.  You have to have good listening skills and remember all of your work and sometimes projects, You have to take on a lot of responsibility.  Sometimes the kids can get rowdy and you need to pay a lot of attention to them.

A good way to take responsibility is be being a leader.  There are so many kids that need somebody to look up to, By being a leader you can help them by teaching them right from wrong.  A child needs a grown up to look up to.  There is something always left out in there life when they are older.  I child is a gift and if two parents can't teach it or love it then they should have never had that child who is neglected everyday.  In this day 90% of teen violence is caused by not having anybody there to teach them.  Maybe one parent can be there but you need both to make it right.  Kids are the most important thing in this world; they reflect on us.  If you want a well mannered child to reflect you, you should take the responsibility to teach them, be there when they need you.  Children learn almost everything at their home, This is the time where you need to take a break from your business and take a look at your child and think.  " is this how I wanted it to be?"  A person's life is shaped from their childhood.  By taking that responsibility you can make your child a better person by listening to them and letting them know how much you love them.

The most important thing in improving our community is getting involved, taking responsibility with in your surroundings.  You get around better by being organized and taking responsibility.  You can go far with your smart actions and wanting to show leadership, Taking a chance with a little responsibility will get you far.
