The Role Of Personal Responsibility in Improving the Quality Of Life in Our Communities Today

By Avis Strobridge

A community consists of people sharing common interests and there is a personal responsibility held by each member to contribute. The community is considered a whole. In order to improve the quality of life in communities today; it would be necessary for one to become involved in local activities and programs. One could organize or participate in educational, recreational, and guidance programs.

In today’s society, students are not satisfied with studying out of books, they want to participate in the research with advanced technologies, and the younger generation obtains an advantage over the students of earlier years. Allowing students to participate in the studies of their interest gives the individual the willingness to learn. Better equipment should be provided for those who strive to receive and education. Through a good education an individual can become an influential member of the community. This person will be given the opportunity to search for jobs of benefit. Although all jobs are important, a helpful job may allow one to give back to his or her community. It could make a large difference for one to give back to their community through volunteerism after becoming successful. One is not considered successful until they allow someone else to become prosperous.

Recreational activities in communities tend to be very helpful to the individuals of that particular area. Most people who dedicate him or her to some type of activity, develops responsibility. When a person is involved in their community they tend to stray away from the negative issues of the world, leaving room for only determination and positive minds. Recreational activities also help one to develop leadership ability and teamwork skills. There are many people who visit nursing homes and hospitals to put a smile upon the faces of those who are less fortunate. This type of teamwork and volunteerism aids in making our community a better place. We as people should make it our priority to help better our future through involving ourselves in community affairs.

It is necessary for an individual to provide for the community by leading, directing or advising by reason of his greater experience with the course to be pursued through guidance programs. As individuals, we have the opportunity to aid one another through sharing the knowledge that we were blessed with through becoming tutors and mentors. A tutor can provide additional, special or remedial instruction to their community. A mentor, who is a wise and trusted teacher, can be of guidance through one on one discussion, giving the individual the opportunity to express their feelings from deep within. Providing these programs gives to the community through [transforming people] into mature individuals.

As a community, we should all come together to [improve] our future, whether its through [encouraging] education…or providing [a means for the young and the old] to [become more] involved [in their communities]. We all share a personal responsibility when it comes to making our community a better place. Communities that obtain the [most] involvement…are the most successful…. Proper funding [is needed to make changes within a community.] Funding can allow the advancement of studies. This will allow students to participate in [areas that interest them]. Funding will provide field trips that [make] learning [more] interesting and enjoyable.

Recreational involvement in the community allows the individual [the opportunity to develop] good leadership skills and helps [him/her] to develop patience. It can also [promote] a feeling of dedication…. A mentor can guide individuals in the right direction and allow [those individuals] to express their feelings [and] speak out when they feel there is no one [else] to hear them. A tutor can help develop confidence…”
