Personal Responsibility

Everyone has an important role in his/her community to make living in that community better. It does not matter whether we have a small role or a big role. We are capable of doing many things to improve the quality of life around us. A few of them could be as easy as keeping our neighborhoods clean or having a positive attitude about your personal role in the community.

An easy way to improve the quality of life is simply keeping your neighborhood clean. There is no reason for our homes, schools, and parks to be neglected and trashy. It is not that hard to keep things neat. Many people find their neighborhood park a place of immense entertainment for their younger children and enjoy taking them there. But who would want to go somewhere where litter is lying around everywhere. You should not throw your litter down on the ground. Just simply place it in the trash container where it belongs.

Keeping our houses and yards clean is an easy, effective way for individuals to promote and maintain the aesthetics of our communities. It does not take a whole lot of effort to make sure our yards are kept cut and all of the trash picked up in front of our homes. We also need to take care of our school grounds. By keeping them neat and clean shows how much pride and respect we have in our school's appearance.

By making sure our homes, our parks, and our schools, are kept clean people can feel good about their town and its accomplishments making their quality of life better.

Attitude plays a major role in one's life. People need to have the attitude that they are going to do the best at everything they do, even if it is just simply cleaning house or playing sports. What if doctors did not take care of their patients to the best of their ability? Many of their patients would most likely die. Doctors have the personal responsibility to take care of lives. They also are responsible for trying to find cures for

the many diseases that we presently have in our communities today.

It is also important to have a good attitude and be able to interact with people. For example, no one would want to live next door to someone who had a bad attitude. If your neighbor was the kind of person who griped about everything you did, it would eventually get on your nerves and cause hard feeling between the two of you. You would not feel free to ask your neighbor to borrow their rake in case yours had broke. Or if it was your daughter's or son's birthday and you were in the middle of making their birthday cake when realized you needed one more egg to put in their cake. You did not have time to run to the store and obviously you could not ask your neighbor if you could borrow an egg because of the bitter feelings between you.

These are just a few instances in which having a good attitude, being able to share and have a good relationship with your neighbors would come in handy. Being able to have a positive attitude is an important responsibility for each of us to have. It easily makes life easier and more pleasant.

Random acts of kindness have a huge impact on improving the quality of life. I read a story about one lady who was traveling along the turnpike and when she had to stop at the tollbooth she not only paid for her toll but for the next ten cars behind her. Two weeks ago I went to McDonald's with my friend Savanna. She was in front of me in line and ordered first. I ordered mine next and when the total came to I was a few cents short. I turned around and looked for Savanna but she had gone to grab us a table. So I was stuck when out of the blue a little old man behind me tapped me on the shoulder and handed me that correct amount of change I needed. These random acts of kindness make our lives so much more enriched and valuable to others.

Everyone has a role of personal responsibility in improving the quality of life around them. They just need to take the responsibility for their role. It does not matter how great or little it may happen to be.

1. The society in Manus concentrates more on economic exchange rather than traditional weddings. In the USA we concentrate a lot more on marriage counselors. The divorce is high and we need counselors to help couples with their problems.
