Apprentice Program

By Jason R. Wethy

I have decided to create my own apprenticeship program. It would be that a student would find a job path such as health field, arts and communication, or things like that. Then they would take the core classes for the first half of the day. Then they would go to lunch.  When they came back from lunch, they would take classes and work in that specified type of work.

This program could begin in about the seventh grade. This would give the students in this program a couple of years experience before they graduated and had to enter the work force. These students would be able to go to a two-year technical school and already have experience in that field. This way they might not be nervous about going into that class and they could freely learn and be restrained from being nervous. This will also help those students who are not good in schoolwork. It would make it possible that they would have experience in a field of work instead of being in an art or physical education class every year just so they would graduate when they are supposed to.

This program is different then the program that students go to school half the day and then go to work the other half of the day because they will begin getting the training for this career in about seventh grade when they become more responsible. It would also help those students who do not prosper from having to take all the classes that they think would be easy enough for them to complete and even though they still do not learn a thing. All the students in this program would graduate in the same amount of years as students on standard programs, except they would be capable of joining the work force as soon as they graduate from high school.

Students would be able to pick any job in a radius of a hundred miles from the school they went to as long as they would be approved to work there by law. They could not be a bartender, a cashier at a store that sold tobacco products, or an exotic dancer.

It would greatly help out a lot of people if they would have a job waiting for them as soon as they were old enough. This would cut down on our unemployment rate because the people in question in will already have a job and it would be just like having their career chosen for them before they graduate. They would be prepared for what ever they would run across as an adult. They would not have as much trouble earning what they deserve. There are a lot of people in this world who have more potential skill and deserve a better job then they have it. This difficulty makes them settle for a job that is not of a high enough quality. The situation will make them regret not having a job that makes them work at the best of their ability. This will cut down on such events as people settling for a job beneath them.  This will help us regain our position as the most technological country of the world.  Japan has currently taken over that position.

This program will prevent people just taking easy classes so that they will pass and graduate with the people they grew up with.  A few people in our class have a 3.5 grade point average because they just take easy classes that there is not a lot they have to do to pass this class.  It is no fair to us who only take classes that are hard and complicated for us to pass.  My grade point average is 3.1 should thank that would count for more since I only take hard classes.  This program will even out the playing field some for an easier ranking.

My program will revolutionize the way that apprenticeships are done.  Students in my program will already have a job field chosen and will be able to complete the work required of them from any boss they may come across.  Since they begin the program in the seventh grade, all of their training that is required of them will be completed well before they enter the work force.  This program is for students who enjoy being away from school more than those who like being at school.  It also helps those who just have trouble completing simple school assignments.  This program might make the United States one of the most advanced countries of the world, even past Japan.             [Back]
