After the burning Adrian commented, 'You cannot put dollars and cents above good health.'"

She believes in challenge and argues that the lowering of standards harms children who need to be stretched in order to realize their potential and attain self-esteem. She acknowledges her inability to change the circumstances the children encounter after school hours , but despite the frustration that brings she continues to teach at a needy school because she knows her concern and skill does make a difference in the lives of these children.
