"Most young children don't like long automobile trips;
they are too confining. To make the trips more enjoyable we
played a special game every two hours. It was similar to today's
Trivia games, but tailored to each child. When a certain number
of questions was answered correctly a prize was earned. These
were small gifts wrapped earlier. Children did not compete
against one another, but had their own game to win. Each cheered
the other on, anticipating their turns."

"We try and make our vacations last by having a special
place for displaying souvenirs. We purposely bring back some
edible items which we can include in a meal a month or so after
the trip; items like smoked salmon from Seattle, or candied
pecans from Savannah, salt water taffy from Ocean City and so
forth. After this 'memory meal' we together choose and place the
photos which have been developed by now, in the family
album."

"On our family vacations we buy
bumper stickers. We got one from Montana, one from Idaho, one
from Wisconsin, one from North Dakota, and two from South Dakota.
Bumper stickers are really neat. They tell where you have been on
vacations."

"When I go on trips with my family,
for instance Seattle, almost all the time we go to places where
my mom or Dad have gone before. When we are in the car we always
stop at places where they have been. For example we always eat at
places where my Mom or Dad have been to before. Like on the way
to Seattle there is a place we always stop to eat at."
