Block-by-Block is a concept that suggests that tasks that appear overwhelming can most easily be accomplished by starting with relatively small projects. The race is run one step at a time just as a meal is eaten one bite at a time. The most run down block in any neighborhood can be changed house by house-something nice can be added-not just to change the appearance of the real estate, but to change the people inside. Some may be resistant at first. If that happens recall "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" and use that memory as a launching pad to come up with your own ideas to understand and "melt Grinch-like hearts." You might encounter blind, bed-ridden, very old, very young family members who would benefit from stories, flowers, baked goods, a walk, or just a visit saying someone cares. You may find new and interesting friends. For sure, you and your neighborhood will be enriched by your caring-even if it doesn't seem like it at the beginning. Be persistent!
